Forklifts and their Utility purposes

In material handling, manufacturing and construction applications, forklifts are used to lift and transfer loads. Motorized drive, fork truck and manual drive are three basic styles of forklifts: motorized dive forklifts are driven by motor and have a cab to provide a shelter for the driver, in manual drive forklifts the load is carried up and down manually and third type fork truck is characterized by a cab and backup alarms. Another well known forklifts include truck- mounted that can be mounted on the back of the utility truck

The specialized types of forklifts from which a consumer has to make a choice can be categorized in the following groups:

• Electric forklifts: an ideal choice for heavy lifting and are used in manufacturing applications, as electric forklifts produce zero emissions and secondly unlike IC forklifts they do not require fuel to drive for, and this one characteristic compensates their higher initial purchasing cost.
• Internal combustion forklifts are used for outdoor applications, they are more convenient and ideal than from electric forklifts for they maintain a load that can be more than 15,000 lbs capacity and can be used in rain where an electric forklift is not a safe option to be used. IC forklifts take diesel fuel, liquid propane, gasoline and CNG for their combustion engines, one of main advantages of IC forklift is its ability to be refueled time and again.
• Narrow aisle forklifts are specially designed to work in narrow spaces and are used in warehousing operations for they eliminate the need for the truck to face the place, thus reducing space requirements
• .rough terrain forklifts are used in construction projects, landscaping and other outdoor applications where the ground is not smooth enough to be worked at, they are run by IC engines and use pneumatic tires that provide them to get the job done on the bumpy and irregular surfaces.

The material, used for the manufacturing the tires of forklifts, falls into four different types:
Pneumatic tires are tough and durable enough to be used in rough terrain forklifts, they are filled with air and are made of thick rubber.
Some forklifts tires use solid rubber material; they do not get deflated like pneumatic tires that provide a cushion of air between the automobile and the ground. They can be used in indoors and outdoors’ application of a forklift but the keynote about solid tire is that they can not be used on permanent basis at outdoor places. Polyurethane is also used to manufacture forklift tires and is most popularly used in electric forklifts.

The maintenance of forklift is a primary concern because improper use of a forklift can harm the whole machine with which forklift is attached; load limit of a forklift is a significant feature therefore only well trained worker should operate such equipment. The precautions and measures should be taken for maintaining the efficiency of a forklift, following are described some of the ways that help ensure a longer life of forklifts:

Constancy and steadiness of forklift decreases as it carries the load, so only technicians should tackle this device else it can prove harmful, secondly, be certain that you are carrying that particular weight or load for which your forklift appliance is designed for, thirdly, the driver in a forklift truck must be certain about using safety belt before using it, sudden stops, starts and jerks while driving a forklift truck should be avoided.
