Fasteners and their Myriad Types

All the devices are fall into two basic groups namely called hardware and software, where hardware are the physical artifacts and software are the set of instructions that tell your device how to work. Traditionally hardware means the metal tools or devices used in different equipments, hardware includes keys, hinges, latches, locks, wires, handles and fasteners. Fastener is a hardware device that helps affixing two or more objects to tighten them with each other. Fasteners are different from hinges, springs, chains and other devices that are used to join two objects together as all of the mentioned devices have their own functions, for these devices do not affix the two surfaces firmly attach with one another. Fasteners are used to join containers and wooden furniture where fasteners are simultaneously fastened and unfastened.

Fasteners’ types include batten, clamp, brass fastener, clip, buckle, button, grommet, pins, pegs, nails, rings, rivets, screws, zipper etc. batten is used in cabinetry, sailing, and steel industry to join the two surfaces according to the function. A mechanical fastener namely rivets that after its installation, offers a tight fit as compared to screws and bolts offer loose fit. Snap fasteners were invented by a German with the name Federknopf who used them for men wear, snap fastener is a pair of two discs that can interlock with each other, they keep the two surfaces bind together unless a specific amount of force is not applied on to them to unlock/unfastened or unzipped. Cap screw is another dynamic type of fasteners; it is inserted through an interior hole that can be a drilled hole and provides with more fastening ability than a bolt does offer. There is a blue thin line of difference between screws and bolts, such as bolts are longer fasteners and screws are smaller than bolts. Bronze, brass, titanium, zinc, steel, aluminum, and nylon are the manufacturing material typically used in the making of fasteners. Used as a fastener, a nail is used in engineering and woodworking and is inserted into an object with a hammer or a nail gun, the material used to make a nail was earlier the wrought iron but now steel, brass and copper are used to manufacture them. A pin also works like a fastener, different fastening pin types include cotter, clevis and cloths pins. Wing nuts are used to hold or fasten two surfaces where parts needed to assemble and disassemble repeatedly, and are utilized in vehicles like boats and bicycles for the ease of their tightening and loosing ability. Divided into two classes, stamped wings and cold forged nuts, these fasteners are popular owing to their convenience.

Fasteners are used in almost all types of vehicles and appliances you used in your day to day life. Some companies around the world claim to manufacture or have more than 150 million fasteners of multiple types for multiple tasking. The material of fastener can be corroded or rusted; therefore it is necessary to keep the proper care of the fastener, on and off the consumers should check the working efficiency of the products in order to ensure the life span of the products where fasteners are performing their tasks.
